Example1:
There are 1030 books in the library. We bought 67 more books for the library. How many books are there in the library now?
Solution:
Addition Word Problems

1030 + 67 = 1097
There are 1097 books in the library now.
Example2:
1085 girls and 531 boys took part in an art competition. How many students took part in the competition altogether?
Solution:

1085 + 531 = 1616
1616 students took part in the competition altogether.

 Example3:
A class has 20 girls and 30 boys. What part of the class are boys?
Solution:
Step 1: Numerator: boys = 30 
Step 2: Denominator: class = 20 + 30 = 50 
Step 3: Part or fraction
3/5
Answer: 3/5 are boys

 Example4 :
If John earns $x in a week and spend $y, what part of his weekly salary did he save?
Solution:
Step 1: Numerator: amount saved = x– yStep 2: Denominator: salary = xStep 3: Part or fraction
x-y/x
Answer: x-y/x

National Mathematics Day (India)       The 2012 Indian stamp dedicated to the National Mathematics Day and featuring Ramanujan In 2012, the Indian government declared 22 December to be  National Mathematics Day . This was announced by Prime Minister  Manmohan Singh  on 26 February 2012 at  Madras University , during the inaugural ceremony of the celebrations to mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Indian mathematical genius  Srinivasa Ramanujan (22 Dec 1887- 26 Apr 1920). On this occasion Singh also announced that 2012 would be celebrated as the National Mathematics Year. Since then, India's National Mathematics Day is celebrated every 22 December with numerous educational events held at schools and universities throughout the country. Ramanujan and Mathematics

Srinivasa Ramanujan , (born December 22, 1887,  Erode , India—died April 26, 1920, Kumbakonam), Indian mathematician whose contributions to the  theory of numbers  include pioneering discoveries of the properties of the partition function. When he was 15 years old, he obtained a copy of George Shoobridge Carr’s  Synopsis of Elementary Results in Pure and Applied Mathematics,  2 vol. (1880–86). This collection of thousands of  theorems , many presented with only the briefest of proofs and with no material newer than 1860, aroused his genius. Having verified the results in Carr’s book, Ramanujan went beyond it, developing his own theorems and ideas. In 1903 he secured a scholarship to the  University of Madras  but lost it the following year because he neglected all other studies in pursuit of  mathematics .
