There are 1030 books in the library. We bought 67 more books for the library. How many books are there in the library now?
Solution:

1030 + 67 = 1097
There are 1097 books in the library now.
Example2:
1085 girls and 531 boys took part in an art competition. How many students took part in the competition altogether?
Solution:

1085 + 531 = 1616
1616 students took part in the competition altogether.

Example3:
A class has 20 girls and 30 boys. What part of the class are boys?
Solution:
Step 1: Numerator: boys = 30 
Step 2: Denominator: class = 20 + 30 = 50 
Step 3: Part or fraction

3/5
Answer: 3/5 are boys

Example4 :
If John earns $x in a week and spend $y, what part of his weekly salary did he save?
Solution:
Step 1: Numerator: amount saved = x– yStep 2: Denominator: salary = xStep 3: Part or fraction
x-y/x
Answer: x-y/x
